The Satanic Temple Doubles Membership to Nearly 500k & Grows Online PlatformÂ
Membership in The Satanic Temple (TST) has jumped to just under half a million members worldwide according to Lucien Greaves, co-founder and the face of TST.
Clearly, 2019âs âHail Satan?â documentary film featuring Greaves and TST has been a huge success in focusing attention on Satanism and TSTâs political activism. Its distribution on Netflix surely helped with that too.
I think it canât be understated how much demand there is for an alternative to religion and to our present politics especially in the US. The film along with TST protests has been very effective at getting the word out and attracting membership.Â
Growing Pains
Growing pains and problems are inevitable when any organization expands as fast as TST has. Recent videos from TST show that leadership appears to be aware of and addressing the issues. At the very least, their intention seems in the right place.
Now, the challenge for TST is to see if it can retain members and create a sustainable organization in the long-term.
Of course, in 2021 that means a strong online presence.
The Satanic Estate online
The Satanic Estate is TSTâs virtual event platform, and its strength is in its event programming.
The platformâs user interface makes it difficult at times to know where you are and where you need to go in cyberspace to find your TST event.
For instance, the software wonât let you go to the room you want if you are in certain other rooms. Instead, you have to move to a hallway before you can get to the room you want. But that navigation nonsense doesnât really matter because the events themselves more than make up for it.
Recent events have included Greaves interviewing Baphomet, Moral Panics & Werewolf Trials, and addressing Satanic Panic in the mental health field.
This event-based approach is a good strategy to keep membership engaged. Events generally happen on Tuesdays and weekends. This prevents diluting attendance across the whole week, and generate a critical mass of attendees on certain days.
TSE is successful because it attracts member participation on a regular weekly basis.
Other groups and websites may also need to learn this valuable lesson on keeping membership engaged.

Unintended Doctrine: Opinions as Weaponized Canon
Genocidal Violence of Ancient Humans is Likely a Self-Serving Modern Myth
Did modern humans literally kill off other hominid species tens of thousands of years ago? If not, why did these closely-related species disappear?Â
Contemporary Western myth seems to want us to believe that our homo sapiens ancestors were violent savages who were capable of genocide of the Neanderthals and the Denisovans.Â
For instance, look at the iconic opening scene in Stanley Kubrickâs â2001: A Space Odyssey,â where some primates are violently fighting and killing each other. One throws a bone in the sky and that cross-fades into a space station showing the evolution of technologyâbut also its supposed violent origins.
Placing the origin ofâand perhaps the blame forâsocietal violence on ancient humans speaks more about the shirking of our own responsibilities than it does about the people who lived before us.Â
There is now some initial scientific evidence against the idea of violent genocide being built into the history of our species. Perhaps, we didnât kill other hominids; maybe we just lived with them, had sex with them, and pathogens and genetics did the rest âas according to this study.
The Hill: New study says humans killed Neanderthals by having sex with them
Seen & Heard
Why is Everyone Talking About Demon Twink? Demon Twink was flying all over gay Twitter this past week. Pedestrian TV explains WTF is Demon Twink? Make sure to read the hilarious responses to the Demon Twink incident.
Best Demon Origin Story on Netflix: Blood of Zeus If you want to see a well-told animated story about the origins of demons, check out Ep 1 of Blood of Zeus on Netflix. About ten minutes in, the people of Ancient Greece capture a demon, and thatâs where it starts. Itâs just about the best-told story Iâve heard about demonsâwhat they are and where they came from. I can see why the showâs creators put that sequence in the pilot. My favorite part is around 16:30 when a dead giant washes ashore and proceeds to reincarnate a primordial evil in the man who finds it.
Best Source to Hear New Black Metal Music: When I want to hear the latest in Black Metal, I listen to Never Stop the Madnessâavailable wherever podcasts are found or broadcasted live on Tuesdays from Boston Free Radio. Highly recommended!
Ahead in August:
15 Year Tribute to Black Metalâs Jon NĂśdtveidt August 13
Perseids Meteor Shower August 12-13
Behind the Scenes: Beware the Exercise Injury Epidemic of 2021!
As people are coming out of pandemic isolation and hibernation, I hear more and more are injuring themselves by exercising too hard, too soon. If youâre restarting exercise, start slow and with a low intensity and increase activity đđ˝ââď¸ very gradually.
I hear that Physical Therapists are booked solid. Thereâs no point to exercising so hard that you hurt yourself and have to stop. Be gentle with yourselves my friends!
